The Amazon biome is one of the most culturally and biologically diverse regions on Earth. It is home to an estimated 30 million people from around 410 ethnic groups. Over 10% the planet’s known biodiversity including many endemic and endangered species is found here.
Unfortunately, the Amazon biome is under threat by human activity. 40% of the biome is close to losing its function as water-generating rainforest – a catastrophe for human well-being and planetary health. We can change this path if we work together and act now.
CIFOR-ICRAF will join key actors at GLF Amazonia to explore ways to preserve the biological and cultural diversity of the world’s largest humid tropical forest.
The event will be covered in English, Portuguese and Spanish.
