CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Scaling ecosystem restoration in agricultural landscapes

Land degradation threatens the livelihoods and the food and nutrition security of the poorest, most vulnerable smallholder farmers and pastoralists. Restoration has the potential to build ecosystem and livelihood resilience Restoration in agricultural landscapes requires a systems approach, from tackling soil degradation, to addressing constraints to crop productivity, to encouraging on-farm crop diversity (including the incorporation of multipurpose trees in farmland), to improving the agency of women in household decision making. This video highlights the implementation of farmer-centered land restoration to scale ecosystem restoration in agricultural landscapes in the drylands of Kenya. This work was led by World Agroforestry, supported by IFAD, EU, CGIAR Research Program on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA) and CGIAR Research Program on Water, Land and Ecosystems (WLE).
