CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Programme for the Development of Alternative Biofuel Crops

Launched in 2013 with seed capital from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), this initiative was designed to conduct research in development along several biofuel value chains, while at the same time strengthening food security and improving the livelihoods of smallholders. Pursuing a landscape approach and having its initial implementation in India, Brazil, Mozambique and Sri Lanka the programme has already started operations in India, Brazil and Kenya where it is developing sustainable agroforestry systems with integrated food and energy production. The Programme is also one of ICRAF's pillars for the implementation of its new Strategy on Tree-based Energy.
