Nguyen Quang Tan (Tan) joined ICRAF in September 2018 as the Viet Nam Country Coordinator. He is responsible for initiating and leading agroforestry research of relevance for policy and practice, primarily in Viet Nam but also in other countries in the Lower Mekong as part of the CIFOR-ICRAF Asian Continent programme. 

Tan received his Doctoral degree with highest distinction (summa cum laude) in Agricultural science from Humboldt University Berlin, Germany in 2005. He got his MSc in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of Arizona in 2000. 

Tan has over 28 years of work experience in Viet Nam and other countries in the region in programme development, management and coordination; community development; capacity development; and research in development. His research interests include community-based forestry, forest governance, policy analysis, forest and land tenure, livelihood and poverty analysis, climate change and REDD+. He has authored and co-authored over 70 publications, including 7 articles in peer-review international journals, 11 articles in Vietnamese journals, and numerous book chapters, policy analysis papers, review reports and policy briefs.
