Background
By employing robust scientific approaches and methodologies, SWAMP has generated a significant body of knowledge that is directly relevant to policymakers and practitioners around the world. This includes cutting edge research and datasets related to carbon dynamics in mangrove and peatland ecosystems across 27 tropical countries.

The SWAMP database serves as a repository for all scientific data and metadata generated by SWAMP researchers, students, and partners. The database is designed to offer a standardized and structured platform for storing research results originating from SWAMP activities. The SWAMP database is composed of five general sections as described in the IPCC Guidelines for carbon stock and flux pools, namely: spatial, vegetation, soil, necromass, and GHG datasets.

Database quality control
All reported variables in the SWAMP database follow standardized and published protocol for carbon monitoring in mangrove and peatland ecosystems (Kauffman and Donato 2012; Kauffman et al. 2017). The SWAMP database is regularly maintained by database administrator. The database administrator should be informed of any updates or changes to the database contents.

Database contributors
SWAMP database contributors are scientists, researchers, students, and partners who work under SWAMP. New database entries and updates should be noted to the database administrator.

Database structure and location
The SWAMP database consists of four sections of dataset collections. Each dataset contains specific metadata information, database spreadsheet, and variable definition. The database is located in an online-based data repository of Dataverse (https://data.cifor.org/dataverse/swamp).
