Can we learn something from REDD+ for TFFF?

Presented by Christopher Martius (CIFOR-ICRAF) at "Forests, finance & fairness: Lessons and pathways for transforming pledges into action” COP 30 side event on 13 November 2025. REDD+ implementation has generated important progress but also persistent structural gaps. Early project‑based approaches created fragmentation and credibility concerns, while jurisdictional and national systems have since improved integration but still leave inconsistencies. Safeguards and benefit‑sharing frameworks offer strong principles, yet their application varies and often lacks adequate guidance, funding, and inclusion of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities. High‑forest, low‑deforestation (HFLD) countries remain insufficiently incentivized despite dedicated windows.
