Presented by Beria Leimona (CIFOR-ICRAF) at "Transforming forest-risk agricultural commodities: Inclusive, climate-resilient, and deforestation-free solutions” COP 30 side event on 17 November 2025.
Cacao production in Indonesia faces declining productivity and increasing vulnerability due to aging trees, pest and disease pressures, soil degradation, climate‑related hazards, limited agrifinance, and gaps in farmer knowledge. At the landscape level, cacao competes with more profitable commodities, receives limited extension support, and lacks coordinated stakeholder engagement. The SFITAL programme addresses these challenges through a jurisdictional approach that strengthens governance, enhances farmer capacity, and promotes sustainable cacao agroforestry systems.
