Description
This project, led by ICRAF, aims to develop a comprehensive report on financing agroforestry in support of KfW Development Bank. Agroforestry, a regenerative land-use system that integrates trees with crops or livestock, offers significant benefits such as land restoration and increased agricultural incomes. However, its broader adoption is hindered by challenges like high initial costs, labor demands, and underdeveloped value chains. This initiative seeks to address these challenges by leveraging global expertise, synthesizing best practices, and proposing innovative solutions for scaling agroforestry in partner countries.
The report provides KfW portfolio managers, sector specialists, and technical experts with actionable insights to improve agroforestry project designs and identify investment opportunities. Deliverables include a detailed synthesis report and presentation, summarizing lessons learned, enabling policy frameworks, and new approaches to agroforestry development. By integrating these insights into development finance programs, the project aims to inspire sustainable strategies that strengthen the linkages between agriculture, climate, and biodiversity.
