Description

The aim of this comprehensive and in-depth study is to assess the state of mainstreaming biodiversity in the forest sector. It takes stock of existing concepts and tools for integrating biodiversity in forest management. Based on the findings, recommendations will be made for future actions regarding the role of forestry in the Food and Agriculture Organization's work on biodiversity mainstreaming across agricultural sectors.

Specifically, the objectives of this project are to:

1. Carry out a comparative analysis of forest policy and strategy documents of how biodiversity is incorporated in national policies and strategies.
2. Review the scope and quality of existing methods and tools for integrating biodiversity conservation in forest management.
3. Compile a set of illustrative case studies of good practices and experiences in regard to how biodiversity is integrated in forest management in practice, and their enabling conditions.
4. Identify gaps and priority actions to formulate recommendations for strengthening mainstreaming of biodiversity in the forest sector worldwide.
