Description
Peru is in process of designing its National Infrastructure Competitivity Plan integrating environmental, social and land use planning issues. To contribute to this, GRADE, a Peruvian Think Tank, and ICRAF, agree to partner and conduct a research study. The aim is to analyze how transport infrastructure influences the development and evolution of deforestation frontiers within the Peruvian Amazon. This study combines spatial analysis to define a typology of deforestation frontiers and DriveNet methodology (Robiglio, Reyes, Makui, 2020) in 3 representative case studies to participatorily analyze causes and causal mechanisms of deforestation and land use change. Results are expected to contribute to the identification of possible interventions to deaccelerate the expansion of these frontiers and to propose scalable recommendations to reduce the impact of road infrastructure on deforestation and land use change.
