Description
From 2017 to 2023 ICRAF implemented the Regreening Africa project, funded by the EC. That project utilized a data-driven, locally led approach for targeted restoration action and implementation, joint reflection and learning, and design of collaborative local spaces to strengthen governance, a blueprint for locally led and context specific restoration. Through collaborative interventions Regreening Africa further created valuable monitoring tools to showcase and drive ownership with communities, to demonstrate contributions to national and global restoration plans and to bridge the gap between citizen science, future modelling, and traditional knowledge. The project is now poised to generate critical insights for restoration adoption, household impact and innovative monitoring approaches, to be distilled to the the wider restoration community in Africa, and the UN Decade.
With support from FAO, CIFOR-ICRAF now works on using the knowledge and insights from regreening Africa to support the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
