Description

A large number of restoration initiatives have been established worldwide but only few attempts have been made to assess the costs and benefits of restoration efforts, and those attempts have been inadequately documented by lack of initial good data or poorly disseminated. This lack of information on the costs and benefits of Forest and Landscape Restoration (FLR) interventions and projects hinders further public and private investments on restoration activities, jeopardizing the chances of achieving global restoration goals and their contribution to global goals on sustainable development, climate mitigation and adaptation and biodiversity conservation and sustainable use.

To address this need FAO, the CGIAR Research program on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA) and member organizations of the Global Partnership on Forest and Landscape Restoration (GPFLR) are engaged in a new initiative The Economics of Ecosystem Restoration (TEER) that aims to constitute a database/clearing house on costs and benefits of restoration activities and to provide information and decision-making tools that donors, investors, project implementers, governments, and other stakeholders can use and consult for reliable cost and benefit data for their decision-making in FLR.
