Vincent Gitz is CIFOR-ICRAF director for Latin America based in Lima (Peru) and director for Programme and Platforms. He is an ex-alumni of Ecole Polytechnique (France), is a forester and economist by training, has a PhD in environmental sciences on land-use and global climate policies, and has been awarded the Le Monde Prize for academic research. He has served in various national and international positions in research (at Center for International Research on Environment and Development (CIRED), the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD) and CIFOR), in policy making and at their interface.He was adviser to Agriculture Minister Michel Barnier of France and assistant-director for food policy in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food in France. In FAO, he led the process for the creation of the High-Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE), the science–policy interface of the United Nation’s Committee on World Food Security, being its first coordinator for over 6 years. At CIFOR, he led the 2nd phase CGIAR Research Program on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA).He has published 100+ papers in several science domains
