Nguyen Quang Tan
NGUYEN Quang Tan (Tan) is a Senior Scientist and the Viet Nam Country Coordinator at CIFOR-ICRAF. He joined ICRAF in September 2018 and is responsible for initiating and leading agroforestry researchthat informs policy and practice—primarily in Viet Nam, but also across other countries in the Lower Mekong as part of the CIFOR-ICRAF Asia Continent Programme. Tan earned his doctoral degree with the highest distinction (summa cum laude) in Agricultural Science from Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany, in 2005. He received his master’s degree in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of Arizona in 2000.With over 30 years of experience working in Viet Nam and other Southeast Asian countries, Tan has contributed extensively to programme development, management and coordination, community development,capacity building, and research in development. His research interests include community-based forestry, forest governance, agroforestry, policy analysis, forest and land tenure, livelihoods and poverty analysis, and climate change. He has authored and co-authored more than 80 publications. As thecurrent co-chair of Viet Nam’s National Technical Working Group on Agroforestry and a member of theNational Technical Working Group on Agroecology, Tan is helping to drive agroforestry and food system transformations in the country.
