Buku ini merangkum hasil kegiatan tahun pertama IndoGreen di lokasi studi Pagar Alam, yang dipimpin dan dilaksanakan oleh World Agroforestry (ICRAF) bekerja sama dengan Centre for Global Food and Resources di Universitas Adelaide. Kegiatan IndoGreen di Pagar Alam termasuk mengadakan diskusi kelompok terfokus (DKT/FGD), mengumpulkan data melalui survei rumah tangga, dan melakukan analisis profitabilitas usaha tani.
