RPPEG diharapkan dapat menjamin kelestarian fungsi ekosistem gambut di Kalimantan Barat, khususnya di Kabupaten Kubu Raya, untuk sekarang dan masa yang akan datang. Ekosistem Gambut di Provinsi Kalimantan Barat tersebar pada 124 Kesatuan Hidrologis Gambut (KHG) dengan luas yang cukup besar yaitu 2,8 juta hektar (ha). Kalimantan Barat merupakan provinsi dengan gambut terluas no.4 di Indonesia, setelah Papua, Riau, dan Kalimantan Tengah.
