CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Ecosystem based adaptation for Sri Lanka

This document discusses the climate change challenges facing Sri Lanka and proposes an ecosystem-based adaptation approach. It notes that Sri Lanka is highly vulnerable to climate change impacts like changes in rainfall patterns and increased droughts and flooding. This is exacerbating problems like water shortages, land degradation, and declining agricultural productivity. It proposes a joint project between Sri Lanka and the Green Climate Fund to implement adaptation solutions like sustainable agriculture and forestry restoration in key watersheds to improve land, water, and livelihoods both upstream and downstream. The goal is to move Sri Lanka toward a green economy model that harnesses science and investment to create more sustainable development, jobs, and better outcomes for communities from the highlands to the sea
