Session 1.1 agroforestry systems in china

The document proposes a new classification system for agroforestry systems in tropical China. The classification is based on woodland type, distinguishing between natural forests like primary and secondary forests, and artificial plantations. It identifies six main agroforestry system types - three for natural forests with crops integrated among ancient tea gardens, Amomum sp. plantations, and secondary forests. The other three types are for artificial plantations, including timber trees, non-timber trees, and protection forests integrated with various crops. Representative models are described for different system types. The conclusions emphasize the importance of distinguishing forest and plantation management, and note agroforestry can provide advantages over monocultures.
