On the sidelines of the session, Guillermo Ros Brull, the site coordinator at CIFOR-ICRAF for the Sustainable Wildmeat Management program, spoke about the dietary changes that can result from the disruption of wild meat practices among Indigenous communities. Wild meat is an important source of food for many communities, but must be managed sustainably. At the European Conference of Tropical Ecology hosted at the University of Lisbon, researchers from around the world gathered at the session “Towards sustainable, equitable and safe wildmeat use in Tropical and sub-tropical countries: opportunities, lessons learnt, obstacles and risks” on 14 February to discuss wild meat practices and what they mean for health, the environment, and communities.
