CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Papua: Planning a Better Future

The Mamberamo watershed contains a vast tropical forest, one of the last of its kind in the world. Despite a low population density, the increasing pressures to exploit its rich natural resources threaten the large number of endemic species and their ecosystems. This video shows how participatory land use planning empowers local people and governments in managing a fragile resource and meeting the needs of future generations. For the last two years, researchers from CIFOR, CIRAD and CI Indonesia collaborated with local institutions to provide data and training for the government and local people in Mamberamo Raya Regency so that local needs as well as forest conservation are considered in planning for the future.
