Prunus africana: A Reality Check

Prunus africana, or African Red Stinkwood, is an important and lucrative medicinal product traded on international markets. After years of unsustainable harvesting, in 2007 the EU placed an import ban on the bark exploited from these trees in Cameroon. But this ban was lifted in 2011 and has instead been replaced by quotas and management plans with the intention of sustainably harvesting existing wild populations. However, the Center for International Forestry Research, along with other organizations, is expressing concerns over the long-term future of the species. 13:48CameroonFor more information go to: http://blog.cifor.org/21473/prostates-prunus-and-policy-a-remarkable-tree-a-contested-study-and-tough-choices-ahead
