CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Informative presentation of tables, graphs and statistics

In this guide we concern ourselves with the effective transmission of numerical information in project reports and serious publications such as scientific papers which might be prepared by DFID-funded researchers. For presentation of general statistical information we recommend an authoritative source of guidance: "Plain Figures" (1996 2nd edition) by Myra Chapman and Cathy Wykes published by H.M. Stationery Office a 148 page book with many full-colour illustrations. "Plain Figures" is particularly intended for those addressing non-specialist audiences; this guide sets out to reinforce and complement it focusing on points most relevant to those presenting structured research results to an informed audience. We give guidelines for layout of graphs charts and tables then for the presentation of results of statistical analyses.
