For over two decades, several institutions including the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), the Department of Agricultural Research Services, the Land Resources and ConservationDepartment and Bunda College of Agriculture have dedicated much effort to the research and development of a range of agroforestry technologies that are suitable to the smallholderfarmers. Based on these efforts, various agroforestry technologies including those that improve soil fertility for enhanced food security, and other technologies that improve supply of fuelwood, fodder and fruits for rural households have been generated and disseminated to farming communities in the country. Some successes in field level uptake of the technologies have been recorded in different parts of the country, but in some cases the level of adoptionof the technologies has generally lagged behind scientific and technological advances attained thereby reducing the potential impacts of the technologies to contribute to greaterimprovements in food security and environmental resilience.
