Join us for this interactive online discussion taking placein parallel to the Commission on the Status of Women meetings in New York. 30 years since leaders convened in Beijing, the ownership and control of land, properties, housing and natural resources across the world is far from achieving any meaningful progress. This body of work remains much under resourced and has not attracted significant global effort to address the problem. We cannot achieve gender equality and a more just and equitable world without confronting the land and gender issue.
Stand for Her Land (S4HL) was established as a vehicle to rally actors from local to the international level with an aim to close the gap between progressive laws, policies, and standards that ensure women’s equal rights, and the reality of women on the ground to benefit from those rights. S4HL does this by addressing the role negative social norms, practices and behaviors play as major barriers for the achievement of gender equality in land and natural resources ownership and control. In essence, the work of S4HL contributes to the implementation of the Gender Transformative Approaches Framework.
This session will facilitate an interactive discussion to:
- Understand the key concept of the Gender Transformative
Approaches (GTA) Framework and how it can be used to advance women’s land, property, housing and natural resource rights; - Learn key indicators that make S4HL a GTA which systematically advances gender equality and empower women towards gender equality through land, properly housing and natural resource rights; and
- Provide a platform to share and build synergies between the campaign and other efforts to advance women’s land, property, housing and natural resource rights.
