Regreening Africa Roundtable

This interactive round table brings together partners of the Regreening Africa project to share experiences and lessons learned during its implementation from 2017 to date. The project focus is on integration of trees into crop and communal areas along with complementary restoration practices and approaches to enhance inclusion, value chains, policy, and local governance. Regreening Africa aims to restore 1 million hectares of degraded land across eight countries in Africa.

Session 1: Scaling out context-based practices
What land restoration practices will work where and how can we encourage widespread uptake? Highlighting the Regreening Africa practices as well as the models used to promote them.
Cases to be presented include enclosures in Ethiopia, tree nursery cooperatives and farmer trainers in Rwanda, and Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) in Senegal.
Presentation on preliminary results on adoption and impact of the programme presented by the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning team.
Session 2: Regreening Africa science-practice-policy partnership
Integrating data from science and practical experience can enhance planning, implementation, and the policy environment. This session outline of the Regreening Africa partnership model where community, government, scientists, and development partners worked together in the Regreening Africa project.

For land restoration and sustainable land management initatives to succeed, communities must see the benefits. In this session we explore two examples of value chains and cases of where engagement with policymakers has seen uptake of restoration and sustainable land management practices.
