Africa is one of the most biologically diverse regions on Earth. Its forests, savannahs, wetlands, rivers, mountains and coastal ecosystems support life across the continent. These natural systems sustain millions of livelihoods, support food security, regulate climate and provide habitat for unique plant and animal species found nowhere else in the world. Yet Africa’s biodiversity is under growing threat from deforestation, land degradation, climate change and unsustainable resource use. Urgent action is needed to protect these vital ecosystems, restore degraded landscapes and support communities at the forefront of conservation. Preserving biodiversity today is essential for climate resilience, sustainable development and the wellbeing of future generations.
